On Saturday, Sara and I had to get up really early. I had a live TV interview! I was on the CBS affiliate for D.C. and talked with one of the reporters about financial aid and what students can be doing to find aid for college. When we were done with the interview no one escorted us out, so Sara and I went and took pictures on the kitchen set for another show—then we got the heck out of there! I’m sure that pic won’t help me get rid of the “Are you related to Rachael Ray?” questions I get from everyone.
Then we headed into downtown D.C. for the FBLA-PBL (Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda) National Fall Leadership Conference. It was full of high school students and their advisers, so it was a perfect stop for us. During the workshops all the students were gone so there wasn’t really anyone to talk to. Sara and I got a little bored. But then Sara had a brilliant idea…
We had all these t-shirts and we wanted to give them away to students—but in a creative way. Sara suggested using trivia questions. We started looking up questions and it turned out to be the perfect incentive for the students to take time to listen to our spiel, especially when they started telling other students to swing by our table and try to answer questions. At one point we had about 40 students standing around our table! All the other exhibitors were a little jealous!
Saturday night Sara and I met up with one of my friends, Catherine, who I knew from Baylor. Catherine and her friends showed us a great time out in Virginia. After seeing more of the city and the surrounding areas I think I would really like living in this part of the country.
Sadly all our Washington fun had to come to an end. On Sunday Sara caught a plane back to Denver and I drove to Richmond, Va. to meet back up with Jess. Hopefully heading south will bring some warmer—and dryer—weather, more great counselor meetings and a few good times!
